CentralApprenticeshipMock TrialParticipants learn the inner workings of the judicial system, developing and enhancing communication skills, and professionalism. Participants visit various tourist sites in Chicago and incorporate their visits into making recommendations to address youth violence in the city. The final presentation is a mock hearing to hold the city of Chicago accountable for violence and provide a blueprint to tackle community violence. Additionally, participants are introduced to industry professionals, community members, and political officials.Spring 2016ActiveWordsLawLaw and Public SafetyAs a part of this experience, apprentices will receive workshops in various areas related to court room proceedings, including the pretrial process, direct and cross examination, objections, etc. Apprentices will learn effective communication skills, research methods and persuasive writing skills. Apprentices will also participate in weekly college prep sessions including workshops on college admissions, goal setting, time management, and study skills. All participants will develop an academic plan and forecast to aid them in their post secondary journey.
